MEMORANDUM

Subject: Resolution Memorializing the Life and Legacy of Margaret H. Thatcher

In the very near future, I plan on introducing a resolution memorializing the life and legacy of Margaret H. Thatcher.

Born Margaret Hilda Roberts in Grantham and daughter of a grocer, Mrs. Thatcher showed hard work and educational excellence at an early age, eventually leading to her graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Somerville College, Oxford.

Margaret Thatcher served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990, not only making her the longest serving Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during the 20th century, but also making her the first and only woman to serve in that role.

Mrs. Thatcher showed leadership, conviction and unwavering friendship in continuing the strong alliance between the United States and the United Kingdom during a tumultuous period of international affairs.

During her tenure as Prime Minister, Mrs. Thatcher exemplified a life-long commitment to advancing freedom, liberty, and democracy. Mrs. Thatcher, along with President Ronald Reagan, was a champion of peace and a stalwart ally of the United States of America in opposing the spread of Communism and bringing an end to the Cold War.

In addition, Mrs. Thatcher advocated on behalf of free enterprise through deregulation and privatization in an attempt to fuel economic growth.

Although Mrs. Thatcher had drawn an equivalent amount of support and opposition for leadership of Britain, her enduring legacy as a leader and Stateswoman will continue to thrive.

Please join me in honoring a great friend of the United States of America and British Patriot by co-sponsoring this resolution.

If you have any questions regarding this resolution, please contact Christine Zubeck in my office at 787-9684 or czubeck@pasen.gov.
