Senate Co-Sponsorship Memoranda

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution directing the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to conduct a comprehensive Statewide costing-out study of charter schools and cyber schools in this Commonwealth.

Recent reports by the Department of the Auditor General have exposed the inequities and flaws in tuition rates that local school districts must pay to charter and cyber charter schools.

In order to make sure that taxpayer dollars are used in an efficient and accountable manner, a comprehensive study of the cost associated with charter and cyber charter schools should be conducted.

In 2006, the Pennsylvania State Board of Education had a comprehensive statewide costing-out study conducted to determine the basic cost per pupil to provide an education that would permit a student to meet the State’s academic standards and assessments.
