Subject: Providing instruction for student blood donation
 
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation directing the Department of Education, in conjunction with the Department of Health, to provide instruction to 11th- and 12th-grade students regarding donating blood.

Statistics show that only about 5% of all Americans donate blood. However, a greater portion of our population will need blood or blood products at some point. My bill would require blood donation education to be integrated within the health course of study currently required in our public schools.

This is a reintroduction of SB 824 from the previous legislative session. Co-sponsors included: FONTANA, TARTAGLIONE, FARNESE AND ALLOWAY
