FROM: Senator Timothy J. Solobay TO: All Senators SUBJECT: PASSHE police officers In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that will allow for law enforcement officers at Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities to be recognized and operate under the framework of the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (MPOETC). This legislation does not add to or expand the jurisdiction of PASSHE police. It provides for consistency among professional officers that are trained and certified under Act 120. It will permit and easier transition for when officers cross from municipal to PASSHE institutions and/or vice versa. These officers perform the same exact functions that municipal police officers perform and are often looked upon first when law enforcement assistance is needed by a student or faculty member. They provide vital and necessary functions to all those that spend time at universities. This legislation was SB 1594 of the 2011 – 2112 session. Previous cosponsors include: Brewster, Fontana, Tartaglione. |
