| Subject: | Increase Nursing Home Reimbursements Equal to the Medical Care Inflation Rate |
| Soon I will be introducing legislation to provide nursing facilities with annual increases attached to the medical care inflation rate. Many nursing homes are struggling to maintain the level of care needed by our aging population because the state reimbursement rates have been stagnate and have not kept up with inflation and increased costs. Under my legislation nursing homes will receive an annual Medical Assistance bed rate increase equal to the Medical Care Inflation rate, as measured by the Federal Bureau of Labor and Statistics for all urban cities on an unadjusted basis. The inflation rate will be measured as of June of each year for the trailing 12 months. We have a duty to make sure our aging population and their families have viable nursing home options and we must be honest with ourselves, everyone is not a good candidate for in-home nursing care. We need these nursing homes to care for many of our most vulnerable citizens. I believe our seniors are worth our investment. Please join me and co-sponsor this legislation. |
