Subject: | Co-Sponsorship: Resolution condemning President Donald J. Trump for cancelling the Philadelphia Eagles’ visit to the White House |
In the very near future, we will be introducing a resolution condemning President Donald J. Trump for canceling the Philadelphia Eagles’ visit to the White House for which they were to be honored for winning Super Bowl LII. This politically charged move is a completely unjust insult to the Eagles players as well as an affront to all of our first amendment rights. The President has stated that the Philadelphia Eagles are not being honored at the White House because they “disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem.” While all of us support an individual’s right to free speech, and many on the Eagles’ team have stated they support their fellow player’s rights to kneel, it should be noted that not a single player on the Philadelphia Eagles team actually took a knee during the playing of the National Anthem in 2017. The players on the Philadelphia Eagles work hard to improve the communities they live in, advocate for issues that matter and do all of this with respect, gratitude and dignity for those that serve in the Armed Forces. The Philadelphia Eagles 2018 Super Bowl Championship Team have made my colleagues and I proud of their work both on and off the field. Accusations about the respect that they hold for this country, and the brave men and women who fight for it, are unfounded and completely inappropriate. Please join us in condemning President Trump for this unfair attack. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (717) 772-9850. |
