MEMORANDUM

Subject: National Missing Children's Day - May 25, 2018

In the near future, I plan on introducing a resolution recognizing May 25, 2018 as “National Missing Children’s Day.”

This will be the 35th year since President Reagan proclaimed May 25 as National Missing Children’s Day. Since 1983, the Department of Justice and other organizations have dedicated this day to encouraging caregivers and members of the community with making child safety a priority. This day also serves as a reminder of the children that are missing and to continue efforts to reunite them with their family.

In 2002, the U.S. Department of Justice published a study on missing children. The study stated that in a year, an estimated 797,500 children were reported missing. In Pennsylvania alone, 143 children are reported missing. My resolution would encourage local governments, communities, and law enforcement in the Commonwealth to continue protecting children and educating children about abduction.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to help bring awareness to the missing children in our Commonwealth.
