Subject: | Commending the Treasury Department for Improving Government Transparency |
As Americans continue to see partisan politics prevent any sort of effective governing in Washington D.C. it is important to show Pennsylvanians the areas where bipartisanship exists in Harrisburg. It is in this spirit that I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing State Treasurer Joe Torsella and his office for outstanding work on behalf of the people of Pennsylvania. At a time when people’s trust in their government has eroded to historic lows it is commendable to see elected officials improve government transparency. The people of Pennsylvania expect their public officials to foster transparency and be good stewards of their money. Through the transparency portal Pennsylvanians cannot only see where taxpayer money is being spent, but they are able to see the state’s full operating budget and long-term investments. Due the innovative work by the Treasurer’s Office to establish a transparent and easy-to-use system with the Transparency Portal, the Treasury Department was recognized with a state and national award. This includes the 2017 Excellence in Technology Award from the Pennsylvania Digital Government Summit and the Digital Edge 50 award from IDG. Please join me and co-sponsor this resolution to commend Treasurer Joe Torsella and congratulate the Treasury Department for being awarded for their hard work on behalf of Pennsylvanians. |
