Subject: | Professional Counselor Awareness Month - April 2018 |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating April 2018 as “Professional Counselor Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) are doctoral and master’s-level mental health providers trained to work with individuals, families and groups in treating mental, behavioral and emotional disorders. LPCs undergo extensive education and training, clinical fieldwork and must pass rigorous exams to demonstrate professional competency in the delivery of mental health services. With over 7,000 LPCs in the Commonwealth, they make up a large percentage of the workforce employed in community mental health centers and related organizations. They are employed within and covered by managed care organizations and health plans. LPCs serve as a font-line resource in our schools and often work with our active duty military, veterans and their families. Please join me in recognizing a profession comprised of individuals who are passionate, diverse and committed to helping the residents of this Commonwealth. |
