Subject: | Death Benefits for Teachers |
In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation that would amend the Public School Code to grant surviving family members of school employees who are killed while performing their jobs within a school a $500,000 death benefit. This legislation is similar to a bill that was recently introduced in the New Hampshire State Legislature. Teachers and other school employees begin their careers with the intentions of helping future generations through education and support. However, with no end in sight for these school shooting tragedies, we must ensure that those families of teachers who make the ultimate sacrifice to protect their students are given assistance and compensation during a time of immeasurable grief. In the absence of commonsense gun reform, it is imperative that we offer some measure of protection to educators and their families, if only financial. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
