Subject: | Appeal of Adoption Subsidy |
Dear colleague, I soon will re-introduce legislation to allow parents who adopt a child or children to appeal to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services the amount of an adoption subsidy provided by local authorities. This legislation is part of a package of legislation designed to reform Pennsylvania’s adoption laws and improve the adoption process. It is being re- introduced because the governor vetoed House Bill 59 over objections to the Human Services Code amendments that were added on to House Bill 59 last year. In its original form, prior to amendments, HB 59 provided for an appeal of an adoption subsidy. My legislation amends the Public Welfare Code by adding a subsection under Section 774 (Adoption Opportunity Payments and Reimbursement). I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
