MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 28, 2017 03:16 PM
From: Representative Greg Rothman
To: All House members
Subject: Legislative Package Taxing Medical and Recreational Marijuana

In the near future, I plan to introduce a legislative package to impose the sales and use tax on both medical and recreational marijuana. Recreational marijuana would also be subject to the tobacco products tax.

My legislation will expand the sales tax to include medical marijuana at a rate of 6% (8% in Philadelphia County and 7% in Allegheny County). In addition, in the event recreational marijuana becomes legalized in the state of Pennsylvania, the legislation will also make it subject to the sales and use tax, as well as the tobacco products tax. This effort is aimed at providing additional revenue for the General Fund.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislative package. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact my office at 717- 783-2063.
