Subject: | Feminine Hygiene Products - Disclosure of Ingredients |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to require manufacturers of feminine hygiene and sanitary products to list the materials and ingredients of such products on its label listing in Pennsylvania. Research has shown that toxic chemicals such as dioxins, furans and pesticide residues are commonly used to manufacture feminine hygiene products such as sanitary pads and tampons. These harmful chemicals which come in contact with some of the most absorptive skin on a female’s body have been linked to cancer, reproductive harm, hormone disruption and toxic shock syndrome. Feminine hygiene and sanitary products are considered “medical devices.” Therefore, manufacturers are not currently required to disclose materials and ingredients. Similar to legislation which has been introduced this year in the New York State Assembly, my measure would require this disclosure. Products that do not include this label listing will be deemed misbranded by the state and manufacturers will be subject to penalties for such violations. It is my hope that this legislation will help protect the health of women all across the Commonwealth against toxic chemicals in feminine hygiene products. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. Thank you. |
