MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 5, 2017 03:41 PM
From: Representative Marcy Toepel
To: All House members
Subject: Designating September 2017 as “Realtor Safety Month"

Real estate agents are talented individuals who help people to buy and sell houses, and their experience and advice is often invaluable to the process of buying or selling a property. Sadly, the nature of the real estate business can put some agents at risk because it often requires them to be alone with complete strangers in isolated locations. There are always at least a few deaths due to homicide each year among real estate agents, but in the past years, statisticians have found that real estate homicides are rising sharply.

Because of this, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) has committed to efforts to keep their members and clients safe. For the past 14 years the NAR has designated September as “Realtor Safety Month”. The Pennsylvania Association of Realtors is participating in this designation by having activities to protect themselves and their clients while on the job.

I hope that you will join me by cosponsoring this legislation designating September 2017 as “Realtor Safety Month” in Pennsylvania.
