MEMORANDUM

Posted: July 6, 2017 01:17 PM
From: Representative Stephen Barrar
To: All House members
Subject: October 13, 2017 - U.S. Navy Birthday in Pennsylvania

As a proud veteran of the United States Navy, I will be introducing a Resolution to proclaim October 13th, as the U. S. Navy birthday in Pennsylvania.

The United States Navy has a long and proud history. On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress established a naval force, hoping that a small fleet would be able to offset the uncontested exercise of British sea power. Although the Continental navy was later dismantled, October 13, 1775, remains the U.S. Navy's official birthday.

From those humble beginnings, the world's most powerful naval force was born. With thousands of ships and aircraft serving worldwide, the U.S. Navy is a force to be reckoned with.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution proclaiming October 13, 2017 as the U.S. Navy birthday in Pennsylvania.
