Subject: Correction: Official State Tourism Slogan

I am planning to introduce legislation that designates "Pennsylvania. Pursue Your Happiness" as the official state tourism slogan.

It is our current tourism slogan, having been developed last year by DCED's Tourism Office in conjunction with marketing professionals and the state's private sector tourism industry.

According to the Tourism Office:

"Pennsylvania. Pursue Your Happiness" captures the spirit of the Keystone State, echoing the famous call to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" that began with our nation's Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia in 1776.

This new slogan has been greeted with a great deal of support from Pennsylvania's $40 billion tourism industry, the state's second largest by economic impact after agriculture.

As you may recall, the state has had several tourism slogans over the past 35 years. "Pennsylvania. Pursue Your Happiness" is in fact the fifth. Because having a consistent image and message is important to attracting visitors, I believe it would benefit our tourism economy to adopt an official slogan that will endure over the years. Two of our neighboring states, New York and Virginia, have had great success with their popular and iconic "I Love New York" and "Virginia is for Lovers" slogans, each of which has been in place for over 40 years. I think we should do the same.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this bill.

Have a good day!
