Subject: | Resolution: National Library Week |
I plan to introduce a Resolution declaring April 9-15, 2017, as “National Library Week” in Pennsylvania. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April that celebrates the valuable contributions of libraries, librarians, and library workers, and the services and resources they provide to people of all ages throughout the United States. Many different types of libraries participate including school, public, academic and special libraries. Libraries now meet the demands of a technology-based society, in addition to providing books, by offering e-books and audio books, computer stations, and other digital resources. The 2016 theme of “Libraries Transform". Please join me in co-sponsoring a Resolution celebrating “National Library Week” in the Commonwealth to help encourage all residents to visit their local library to take advantage of the wonderful resources and world of knowledge and opportunity offered to them.
