Subject: | Condolence Resolution Recognizing the Accomplishments & Life of Doctor Thomas Starzl |
In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing the accomplishments and life of Doctor Thomas Starzl. Dr. Starzl earned his doctoral degree in neurophysiology and a medical degree with distinction from Northwestern University Medical School in 1952. He pursued his interest in surgery and research with residencies at Johns Hopkins, the University of Miami and the Veterans Administration Research Hospital in Chicago. He was a Markle Scholar which is an honor bestowed to a small group of exceptionally promising young physicians in academic medicine. In 1963, Dr. Starzl performed the world’s first human liver transplant and forever changed the world of medicine. He later assumed the title of Director of the University of Pittsburgh Transplantation Institute which was renamed in his honor in 1996. Dr. Starzl has received numerous awards and honors over his lifetime including 24 honorary doctorates from universities all over the world. Please consider joining me in supporting this resolution and recognizing the many contributions that Dr. Thomas Starzl made throughout his long life. |
