MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 8, 2017 02:40 PM
From: Representative Carol Hill-Evans
To: All House members
Subject: Designating the Month of March 2017 as “Save Your Vision Month”

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating March 2017 as "Save Your Vision Month" in Pennsylvania.

“Save Your Vision Month” is annually observed by the American Optometric Association in March to promote the importance of regular, comprehensive eye care from a doctor of optometry. This year’s “Save Your Vision Month” focuses on promoting awareness around digital eyestrain, specifically on the impact of blue light from computers, smartphones, tablets and other technology.

During “Save Your Vision Month,” it is important to take the necessary steps towards better eye care while using technology. The most important step in maintaining healthy vision is regular eye exams and alerting a doctor of optometry to the amount of computer work done on a daily basis. Additionally, it is important to take regular breaks and make an effort to blink while in front of a computer, which can prevent vision damage. Ensuring the monitor is tilted at an angle and positioned at least 20 inches away can also lessen eyestrain and dry eyes.

Please join me in co-sponsoring and recognizing the efforts of the American Optometric Association and Optometry Cares—The AOA Foundation to help all citizens become more aware of the importance of obtaining regular eye examinations and maintaining good eye health.
