| Subject: | Property Tax Freeze for Senior Citizens |
| In the near future, I will be reintroducing legislation (HB 277 of 2015) to limit the burden of school property taxes on Pennsylvania residents. For decades, we in the General Assembly have struggled and failed to adequately address this pressing issue. I believe it is time we take a common sense approach and freeze all school property taxes for those who need the most relief, our senior citizens. The vast majority of Pennsylvania’s senior citizens are living on a fixed income. Many live month to month struggling to get by. There is no doubt that every member of the General Assembly has heard from elderly constituents who are struggling to keep their homes because of increases in their school property taxes. Specifically, my legislation will freeze all school property taxes on the primary residences of Pennsylvania senior citizens. The freeze will go into effect during the year in which the individual applying for the freeze turns sixty-five (65). All individuals currently over the age of sixty-five will have their property tax frozen at their current annual amounts. This legislation is nearly identical to Senate Bill 299 of 2013 (Pileggi).
