Subject: Human Trafficking Awareness Day – Jan. 11, 2017

Very soon I will be introducing a resolution recognizing January 11, 2017 as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day in Pennsylvania.

I raise the issue again this year in order that we might continue these advances in raising awareness of an evil that destroys lives in broad daylight. Public awareness is critical in addressing this particular problem because of the techniques that traffickers use to keep their victims silent; it is up to us to see what is happening and to do something about it. Although there are laws to prosecute perpetrators of human trafficking, and to assist and protect victims of human trafficking, awareness of the issues surrounding human trafficking by those most likely to come into contact with victims is essential for effective enforcement.
