MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 5, 2017 02:39 PM
From: Representative Robert Freeman
To: All House members
Subject: Proposed Legislation: Auditor General to Conduct Audits of General Assembly (Former House Bill 1744)

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation requiring the Auditor General to audit the financial affairs of the General Assembly and its legislative service agencies. The Auditor General would be permitted to perform special audits if deemed necessary as well. Copies of all audits would be submitted to the President pro tempore of the Senate, Minority Leader of the Senate, Speaker of the House and the Minority Leader of the House.

Currently, the financial affairs of the General Assembly and its legislative service agencies are audited by a certified public accounting firm, which is retained by the Legislative Audit Advisory Commission. Having the duly elected Auditor General perform this responsibility would save money and insure greater accountably. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.

If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Danielle Kline in my office by e-mail at dkline@pahouse.net or by telephone at 783-3815.
