Subject: Official State Prescription Form
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce a companion bill to Senator Rafferty’s Senate Bill 472 which would establish an official state prescription form.

This proposal provides that controlled substances in Schedules II, III, IV, and V must be prescribed or dispensed only on a serialized state prescription form issued by the Department of Health, unless prescribed electronically. Additionally, practitioners would be required to maintain a record of the disposition of the forms as well as notify the department in cases of loss, theft, or unauthorized use.

It is my belief that the enactment of this proposal will help deter fraudulent prescriptions, prevent opioid abuse, and protect public health in our Commonwealth. Therefore, I encourage your consideration and co-sponsorship.
