Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 31, 2016 12:27 PM
From: Representative Brian Sims and Rep. Dan Frankel
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Recognizing The Israeli Consulate of Philadelphia for 55 Years of Service on Behalf of the State of Israel to the City of Philadelphia and the Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States.

In the near future, Rep. Dan Frankel and I will introduce a resolution honoring the Israeli Consulate of Philadelphia for over 50 years of service to Pennsylvania and the entire Mid-Atlantic Region.

The Consulate General of Israel served as the official representative of the State of Israel to the Mid-Atlantic Region from 1961 to 2016.

Israel still has similar offices in Boston, New York, Atlanta, Miami and other U.S. cities, and has been expanding its network in China and other trading nations.

The consulate served as an economic and political connection between the Greater Philadelphia region and the State of Israel since 1961. Since that time, Philadelphia has developed a unique strategic importance to Israel in at least three areas.

First, approximately 25% (est. $5 billion) of all Israeli exports to the U.S. pass through the Greater Philadelphia region every year. Secondly, the region strongly supports Israel, boasting the 2nd largest Jewish population on the East Coast and the 5th largest Jewish population in the U.S. Finally, the Greater Philadelphia region firmly complements Israel’s prominent and growing life science, medical and energy exploration industries.

I hope you will join us co-sponsoring this important resolution as a tribute to the cultural enhancement between our region and the State of Israel.
