MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 24, 2016 02:30 PM
From: Representative David M. Maloney, Sr.
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution designating September 27, 2016 as “First Responder Appreciation Day”

Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution designating September 27, 2016 as “First Responder Appreciation Day” in Pennsylvania. This day coincides with the national tribute to our first responders.
Pennsylvania has more than 150,000 first responders who are on call around the clock, ready to spring into action in the face of any emergency, to protect the public, preserve order, and prevent the loss of life, peace and property. The Commonwealth’s state and local police officers, career and volunteer firefighters, EMS personnel and other first responders have performed with extraordinary courage and an inspiring sense of self-sacrifice on the scene of violent crime, highway accidents, school shootings, tornadoes and floods, house fires, and countless other emergencies that occur every day in communities across the Commonwealth.
These local heroes often risk their own lives in order to protect, serve and save others. Especially as Pennsylvania works to overcome an alarming volunteer shortage, the societal, economic and personal value of our first responders is more evident than ever. This resolution will pay tribute to these brave men and women, and thank them in a formal way for their time, dedication, service and sacrifices.
Please note that I have HB1912 that designates September 27th of each year as “First Responders Day” in Pennsylvania. Until that were to be law I intend to offer this resolution annually.
Thank you for considering this resolution.
