MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 14, 2016 09:27 AM
From: Representative Jeff C. Wheeland
To: All House members
Subject: Renaming of bridge in Williamsport, PA

In the very near future, I will be introducing legislation that would rename the West Fourth Street Bridge (State Route 2014) over Lycoming Creek in the City of Williamsport as the Alexander M. McFadden Memorial Bridge.

Alexander McFadden was named the first Chief of Police in Williamsport on June 4, 1866. He served from 1866-67. Mr. McFadden was roughly 40 years old when appointed. He was an auctioneer and a plasterer. He was originally from Lewisburg, PA and was known for ‘his wit, geniality and humor’. He died in Williamsport April 7, 1885, at the age of 58 and is buried in an unmarked grave in Wildwood Cemetery, Loyalsock Twp, Lycoming County, PA.

Please join me in honoring Williamsport’s First Chief of Police in the renaming of the West Fourth Street Bridge.

Thank you.
