Subject: | Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Awareness Month |
I will be introducing a resolution declaring September 2016 as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Awareness Month. Doing so will be in the interest of supporting pregnant women, and women seeking to become pregnant, in abstaining from alcohol and encouraging an FASD-informed approach to understanding and caring for persons with FASD. FASD is preventable by avoiding alcohol, yet much remains to be done to educate both women and men about FASD in order for them to become empowered to take charge of their health. Residents will be urged to take action and to educate themselves during the month of September and at times throughout the year to help women refrain from consuming alcohol during pregnancy. I urge you to join me in co-sponsoring the resolution. |
