Subject: Resolution Designating the week of May 21 through 27, 2016 as “National Safe Boating Week” in Pennsylvania.
 
In the near future I will be introducing legislation designating the week of May 21 through 27, 2016 as “National Safe Boating Week” in Pennsylvania.

Every year Pennsylvanians take to the water on a variety of watercraft from one man kayaks on our creeks to million dollar yachts on Lake Erie.

Safe boating practices are everyone’s responsibility and Pennsylvania requires anyone born after January 1, 1982 to obtain a boating safety certificate to operate a personal watercraft or a powerboat with a motor greater than 25 horsepower.

Pennsylvania had 58 reportable recreational boating accidents of all types in 2015, which was a decrease of 17% from 2014 as reported by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

I hope you will join me in sponsoring this resolution to help promote Boating Safety on Pennsylvania waterways
