Subject: | Milk Labeling - Heffley |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that amends the Milk Sanitation Law (Act 210 of 1935). This bill exempts milk producers that process and sell less than 1,200 gallons of milk per week from labeling information on their containers that is currently required by law. Specifically, these low volume milk producers and retailers would be exempt from labeling a lot number, manufacturing date code, and a recommended date by which a consumer may safely consume milk. This bill will help support small businesses that already struggle to compete with the economies of scale of larger producers. Moreover, it will serve as a cost-saving measure, because producers will be able to avoid the costly investment of labeling technology. Please join me in sponsoring this legislation to protect small businesses that produce and process dairy products. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office. |
