MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 7, 2016 12:24 PM
From: Representative Mike Vereb
To: All House members
Subject: RESOLUTION FOR NATIONAL POLICE WEEK

I plan to introduce a resolution to designate the following seven days; May 11 – May 17, 2016 as National Police Week in Pennsylvania along with designating May 15 2016 as Police Officers Memorial Day in Pennsylvania.

When President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation in 1962 it designated May 15th as Peace Officer Memorial Day and that week of which that date fell as Police Week.

Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world participate in numerous events to honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Beginning in 1982, a memorial service was held and continues to be held in Senate Park, Washington D.C. where years later has become known as National Police Week.

It is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards and sacrifices of their law enforcement agency, and that members of our law enforcement agency recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence and disorder and by protecting the innocent against deception and the weak against oppression.

I urge you to join me in cosponsoring this resolution.
