Subject: Request for Co-sponsorship: Commemorating “Community Service Appreciation Month”
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution commemorating “Community Service Appreciation Month” in the Commonwealth, observed during the month of April 2016.

Every citizen of this Commonwealth who volunteers for community service displays not only a strong sense of civic pride, but a clear commitment to serving their fellow citizens. Each year, these individuals donate their time in support of foundations and non-profit corporations to better their communities, our Commonwealth, and our country.

In 2014 alone, 2.8 million Pennsylvanians volunteered 348 million hours in generous service. The Corporation for National and Community Service has estimated each hour of time volunteered holds a value of $22.63. This effort, time and money, donated for the common good, should be applauded.

I hope you will join me in recognizing the value of community service in Pennsylvania by supporting this resolution.
