MEMORANDUM

Subject: Resolution designating April 15th as "Purple Up" Day in Pennsylvania

April is the "Month of the Military Child", a time to celebrate the many military children in Pennsylvania and to show appreciation for their sacrifices and applaud their courage when a parent is deployed overseas. States across the country are joining forces on April 15th to promote Purple Up! What began as an initiative in New Hampshire to support the Month of the Military Child, has gone nationwide.

In recognition of this celebration, I will be introducing a resolution designating April 15th as “Purple Up” Day in Pennsylvania. On this day, individuals are encouraged to wear purple. The color purple symbolizes all branches of the armed forces as it is the combination of Army Green, Marine Red, and Air Force Blue, Navy Blue and Coast Guard Blue. Established by former Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger, the Month of the Military Child recognizes the important role military children play in our communities.

Please join me in demonstrating to our military youth that they and their families have our support. And don’t forget to “Purple Up!” Thank you in advance for your consideration of this resolution.
