Subject: "Pennsylvania Community College Completion Challenge Week" Resolution

As Co-Chairmen of the Community College Caucus we will be introducing a resolution designating October 18 - 24, 2015 as "Pennsylvania Community College Completion Week" in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Community College Completion Challenge Week is intended to encourage community college students to complete their studies at the colleges. Each chapter is embarking on programs during this week to promote the event on campus. The campus events - which are designed to promote a culture of completion at the schools - cover a wide variety of topics including: learning about the student support services the colleges offer, transferring from a community college, resume workshops, job fairs and panels highlighting the successes of community college alumni.

One of the many benefits to earning a community college degree or certificate is that they tend to excel professionally. Students with a degree or certificate earn $500k more over a lifetime than someone with only a high school degree. In less than five years, 65 percent of all new jobs will require a postsecondary credential.

More than 70% of community college students who transfer to a senior college with an associate degree successfully complete a baccalaureate degree. Those who transfer without earning their associates degree have a greater risk of failing at the senior college level.

By encouraging students to complete their degrees, we are helping to guide them to a better future and a stronger Pennsylvania in the future.

Thank you and we hope you will consider joining us in support of this resolution.
