Subject: | Cultural District Legislation |
Across the state there are many areas of cultural significance that need preservation and protection. Currently, there is no legislative mechanism for a municipality to designate an area a cultural district. My legislation moves and expands the Neighborhood Improvement District Legislation which provides a number of tools for a municipality to improve and maintain certain areas within their boundaries to accomplish this. This bill would allow a municipality to establish a Cultural Improvement District and using the tools provided to send additional funding to the district to be used to maintain, improve and promote the Cultural District. Moving the Neighborhood Improvement District Legislation into Title 53 makes it much easier for municipal governments to locate which may encourage more municipalities to use this important tool that has been provided. This legislation will help municipalities across the state maintain areas of cultural significance across the state. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this important piece of legislation. |
