MEMORANDUM

Posted: July 20, 2015 12:42 PM
From: Representative Martina A. White
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Protecting Our Service Men and Women

In the very near future, I plan on introducing a resolution memorializing the United States Congress and the Department of Defense to immediately authorize our military personnel to carry weapons while in the performance of their duties.

As we are very much aware, too many of our military personnel are being murdered while in the performance of their duties and while in their own country by those who have become radicalized or suffering from mental disorders.

These brave soldiers and airmen train to protect this country from enemies both foreign and domestic. We should allow our men and women of the United States Armed Forces, who are highly trained individuals, carry a weapon to protect themselves and their fellow service men and women while in the performance of their duties.

These policies of gun-free zones, as it relates to our military personnel, are dangerous and tragedies like what happened in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Fort Hood, Texas could be prevented if U.S. service members were allowed to carry firearms on bases and at military centers.

Therefore, I ask that you join me in strongly recommending that the United States Congress and the Department of Defense authorize our military personnel to carry weapons they have been trained to use and to protect one another in a world that is ever changing. Our brave men and women deserve the opportunity to protect each other in the same fashion they protect us.
