Subject: Additional requirements for Boarding Kennels
 
I have a constituent who took her two dogs to a kennel and gave the owners of the kennel specific verbal and written instructions regarding their care. The dogs were supposed to be in separate kennels due to their aggressive behavior in unfamiliar situations because they had previously been abused. The instructions were not followed and the dogs got into a fight overnight and, unfortunately, both dogs died due to the injuries they received.

I am introducing legislation that will require a boarding kennel to sign the written instructions given by the owner of the dog and that the instructions will be followed while the dog in in the possession of the boarding kennel.
