MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 13, 2015 08:53 AM
From: Representative Pam Snyder
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Designating June 2015 as “Dairy Month” and “Dairy Farmers Appreciation Month” in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating June 2015 as “Dairy Month” and “Dairy Farmers Appreciation Month” in Pennsylvania.

Specifically, this resolution would recognize the economic impact of dairy production in the Commonwealth and the hard work and achievements of dairy farmers and their families. There are more than 7,000 dairy businesses in Pennsylvania, many which are small, family-run farms. Pennsylvania’s dairy industry consists of nearly 540,000 cows that annually produce nearly 11 billion pounds of milk, which amounts to about 1.2 billion gallons.

Agriculture is our Commonwealth’s largest industry, with dairy farming serving as the largest segment of that industry. Pennsylvania dairy farmers produce more than five percent of the nation’s total milk supply annually, ranking fifth in the nation and contributing about $2.3 billion to the state’s economy.

The resolution that I will be introducing would recognize the importance of Pennsylvania's dairy farmers to the historical, cultural, environmental, economic, and health success of the Commonwealth. In addition, it would recognize the outstanding contributions of dairy farmers and their families, as well as all individuals involved in the dairy industry who regularly work to improve the lives of residents of the Commonwealth.

I hope you will join with me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
