Subject: Resolution Commemorating 250th Anniversary of the York County Fair

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution which commemorates the York County Fair on its 250th anniversary. The York County fair established in 1765 is the oldest fair in the United States preceding the birth of our nation and the Declaration of Independence by 11 years. During its long storied history the fair has reflected the values of York County of community, service and perseverance. This was evidenced when the fairgrounds were used as a hospital to treat wounded Union soldiers following the shelling of Fort Sumter. The fair again demonstrated the values which make York County special by continuing to serve the community during the Second World War. During the war, as other fairs closed, the York County Fair refused to close and continued to serve our community. The county continued this tradition of serving Pennsylvanians in times of tragedy and struggle remaining open to the community following the terrorist attacks of September 11th.

Please join me and cosponsor this resolution celebrating the 250th anniversary of America’s oldest fair and their continued service to the residents of York County.
