Subject: | Child Abuse Clearances for Minors |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would amend Title 23 (Domestic Relations) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes by exempting employees under the age of 17 from acquiring child abuse clearances. Under the recent changes to our Pennsylvania laws, individuals who are 14 years and older are now required to obtain child abuse clearances from the Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP). In the Commonwealth, a person applying for the clearances is solely responsible for the fees that are charged by DHS and PSP. Organizations that are now forced to require the clearances may choose to reimburse the fees, but, also may not. These child abuse clearance fees can place a burden on our young workers. My proposal would eliminate that burden, and encourage more of our youth to work. Please join me in supporting this necessary legislation. |
