Subject: | Licensing of Electrologists |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to amend the Cosmetology Law to require the licensing of electrologists. Currently, the Cosmetology Law (Act 86 of 1933) does not include the practice of electrology and does not provide for the licensing of electrologists. Electrology is permanent hair removal that uses a needle or probe to emit a small amount of electrical current to the base of the hair follicle. I believe this kind of treatment should be regulated and controlled by the State Board of Cosmetology. My legislation requires completion of 400 hours of instruction in electrology in a licensed school of cosmetology in order to qualify for the license, but also provides a “grandfather provision” to allow currently practicing electrologists to qualify for licensure. I invite you to join me in cosponsoring this legislation. Thank you for your consideration. |
