| Subject: | Legislation - Renaming a portion of State Route 15 the Kelly Rae Mertes DUI Awareness Memorial Highway |
| In the very near future, I will be introducing legislation that would rename a portion of State Route 15 from the Market Street/Hastings Street intersection to State Route 15/54 in Lycoming County as the Kelly Rae Mertes DUI Awareness Memorial Highway. The late Kelly Rae Mertes was born on January 23, 1986 in Williamsport. She was a life time member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, a recent honors graduate of Bishop Neumann High School and a gifted artist attending photography college in Lancaster. On February 5, 2005, Kelly Mertes’ life was tragically cut short when, at 19 years of age, she was killed by a drunk driver nearly five times over the legal blood alcohol limit. Since the loss of their daughter, the Mertes family has for the last 10 years tirelessly supported the Lycoming County DUI Taskforce to prevent another tragedy from occurring. Please join me in honoring the Kelly Rae Mertes and her family in the renaming of this portion of Route 15 in her honor. Thank you. |
