From: Representative Marc J. Gergely and Rep. William C. Kortz, II
To: All House members
Subject: Condolence Resolution for the Honorable Joseph Matthew Gaydos, Sr.

In the very near future, I plan to introduce a condolence resolution that honors the life and public service of the Honorable Joseph Matthew Gaydos, Sr., who passed away at the age of 88 on February 7, 2015.

Mr. Gaydos served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, after which he graduated from Duquesne University and Notre Dame University Law School. He began his career as General Counsel to United Mine Workers District 5, served as a Deputy Attorney General and as the Assistant Solicitor for Allegheny County.

He was elected to serve as a member of the Senate of Pennsylvania representing the 45th Senatorial District in 1966, and he was elected to the United States Congress in 1968. He represented the members of the 20th district with distinction until 1992. Mr. Gaydos was instrumental in drafting the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, and was the founder of the Congressional Steel Caucus.

He was a beloved family member and dedicated public servant who generously gave of his heart and time to enhance the quality of life of his family and community.

Please join me in recognizing and honoring the life and career of the Honorable Joseph Matthew Gaydos, Sr.
