Subject: Co-Sponsorship - Severance Tax for Edcuation Fund
 
In the near future, I will introduce legislation imposing a severance tax on natural gas extraction in Pennsylvania. We have witnessed staggering growth in this industry in recent years, and as it is now a major sector in our economy with a established footing here, it is time to join other producing states and levy a fair and competitive tax that will provide important new revenues for the Commonwealth.

My legislation charges a tax of 4% of the gross value of units severed. This tax is in addition to our current Unconventional Gas Well Fee, resulting in a total assessment that remains competitive with other states. All revenues realized by this toll will go directly into a new “Severance Tax Education Fund” to help fund education and expand opportunities for Pennsylvania’s children.
