MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 22, 2015 11:44 AM
From: Representative Robert F. Matzie
To: All House members
Subject: Sunshine Week in Pennsylvania Resolution – Former House Resolution 729

I will be re-introducing a resolution designating March 15 through March 21, 2015, as Sunshine Week in Pennsylvania.

In March 2005, the American Society of News Editors (ASNE) launched a new national initiative to promote the importance of freedom of information and an open and transparent government, while simultaneously encouraging people to play an active role in government at all levels. Since then, ASNE’s Sunshine Week initiative has been celebrated each March to coincide with James Madison’s birthday on March 16. Over the past decade, this program has helped to create meaningful changes in government and in communities across the nation.

Join me in recognizing this non-partisan, non-profit initiative’s valiant effort to promote openness and accountability in government by co-sponsoring my resolution designating March 15 through March 21, 2015, as Sunshine Week in Pennsylvania.
