MEMORANDUM

From: Representative Stephen Bloom
To: All House members
Subject: Renaming a Section of Route 74 as the Marine Lance Corporal Gary Lee Ream Memorial Highway

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation designating State Route 74 from the eastern corporate limits of Carlisle Borough to the intersection of Route 74 with Ashland Avenue, as the Marine Lance Corporal Gary Lee Ream Memorial Highway, in honor of a fallen Cumberland County Marine.

Gary Lee Ream was born July 25, 1945, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He attended and graduated from Carlisle Area High School after which he entered the United States Marine Corps in October of 1964, where he served two years.

Lance Corporal Ream was stationed in the Quang Nam Province, Republic of Vietnam, as part of the 1st Platoon, C Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. He died November 3, 1966, at 20 years of age, while serving as point man of a combat patrol near Hoi An, Republic of Vietnam, when he and his squad were caught in an enemy ambush in which he was hit by enemy rifle and machine gun fire.

Lance Corporal Ream, son of Wallace R. Ream Sr. and Lois C. Ream, as well as brother to five siblings, was selflessly serving his country at the time of his death. It is only fitting that his name be placed on this section of Route 74 in remembrance of someone who gave his life in service to his community and country.

Please join me in sponsoring this piece of legislation. Thank you for your consideration.
