Subject: | National Blood Donor Month in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating the month of January 2015 as National Blood Donor Month in Pennsylvania. Every January, blood banks across the United States encourage all eligible people to donate blood. January is a challenging time for blood donation due to holiday activity and inclement weather. Regardless of the time of the year, hospital patients nationwide need about 44,000 donations daily for cancer care, surgeries, and the treatment of serious diseases and trauma, according to the American Red Cross. My resolution seeks to bring awareness to the needs of blood banks in Pennsylvania and encourages the residents of this Commonwealth to contribute to the blood supply by donating and organizing or volunteering at a blood drive, or by suggesting blood donation to their family and friends. Donating blood is a safe, life-saving, and selfless gift that enhances the level of preparedness for each and every community in this nation. Donating 1 unit of blood saves as many as 3 lives. Please join me in recognizing January 2015 as “National Blood Donor Month” in Pennsylvania; together we can save lives. |
