Subject: | MPOETC Membership Revision |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation to change the composition of the membership of the Municipal Police Officers Education & Training Commission (MPOETC). Current law provides for the Governor to appoint an FBI Special-Agent-In-Charge to the Commission. That position is currently vacant and has been since 2007. I believe it would be much more worthwhile to have the President of the State Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, or his designee, serve on the Commission since they are much more in tune than an FBI Agent with the needs of municipal police officers in the Commonwealth. Furthermore, it is my understanding that the Department of Justice has advised the FBI not to participate in the Commission because they do not want them to be involved in any supervisory role with municipal law enforcement. Therefore, my legislation will remove the gubernatorial appointment of an FBI Agent to the Commission and replace it with the President of the State FOP Lodge or his designee. This position will be served by virtue of the office held and will NOT require gubernatorial appointment or Senate confirmation. Please direct any questions to Kevin Andrews in my office at 610-461-5543 or kandrews@pahousegop.com. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
