Subject: | Co-Sponsorship - "National Family Literacy Day" in Pennsylvania |
In the very near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing November 1, 2016, as “National Family Literacy Day” in Pennsylvania. This day was similarly recognized in 2015 with the adoption of House Resolution 542. National Family Literacy Day highlights the benefits of encouraging family time for families when parents and children have an opportunity to read together. This family time also helps to promote creativity, writing, and enhanced reading and language skills among participants. The benefits for our future generations of children are great. Increased participation in reading helps position our children for future academic success because reading encourages them to think critically and to be analytical and imaginative. In addition, numerous studies show that children who are raised in homes where family literacy is promoted are positioned for greater academic performance during ensuing years. Please join me in recognizing the benefits of literacy for our children by co-sponsoring this resolution.
