Subject: Gaming Expansion for Property Tax Relief

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to amend the Gaming Code requiring additional revenue to be used for property tax relief. Specifically, my legislation will add language to Title 4 directing all new revenue generated from the expansion of gaming into the Property Tax Relief Fund.

The Gaming Act was originally intended to provide the residents of Pennsylvania with property tax relief through the use of slot machines as a source of new revenue. The Commonwealth, at that time, estimated $1 billion in annual revenue would be generated, a figure which has never been realized.

When the Commonwealth authorized the expansion of gaming to include table games, contrary to the original promise made with slot revenue, there was no additional property tax relief for Pennsylvanians. As the state continues to debate expansion of gaming to include internet gaming and video gaming terminals, I believe the Commonwealth should again ensure the revenue is used to provide property tax relief.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to honor the original intent of the Gaming Act by ensuring new gaming revenue is used to provide for property tax relief. If you have any questions please contact Lauren Evans by phone at 783-8389 or by email at lmevans@pahousegop.com.
