MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 24, 2015 10:22 AM
From: Representative Stephen Barrar and Rep. Chris Sainato
To: All House members
Subject: National Guard Day in PA

We plan to introduce a resolution designating December 8, 2015 as “National Guard Day” in Pennsylvania.

The resolution commemorates the 260th anniversary of our Commonwealth’s first militia laws and honors Guard members for their unselfish contributions to their dual mission of national security and emergency preparedness and response.

Pennsylvania’s 19,000-member National Guard is one of the largest and most deployed forces in the nation, and the only National Guard to host a Stryker Brigade, built around one of the industry’s most powerful armored vehicles.

The PA National Guard is one of the top ten employers in Pennsylvania and one of the largest Guard force in the United States.

Dating back to 1755, our nation’s volunteer militia has evolved into today’s modern, professional National Guard. These citizen-soldiers have taken part in every major U.S. military conflict since the Revolutionary War, and have been a vital part of peacekeeping missions, flood response and recovery, and many other domestic and international operations. Since September 11, 2001, more than 17,000 of our soldiers and airmen have deployed in support of the global contingencies, with many serving multiple deployments.

Please consider joining me in support of this resolution and our PA National Guard.
